Professor Michael Modell, Emeritus Professor of Primary Health Care, Royal Free and University College Medical School
Michael Modell is Emeritus Professor of Primary Care at UCL and was a partner in the James Wigg Practice, a large multi-ethnic practice in Camden, for 30 years. This was one of the early group practices, with attached practice nurses, health visitors and district nurses from the late 1960s. He started combining academia with clinical practice in 1972, and was responsible for general practice-based teaching at UCL from then until 2002. For the last 20 years, apart from education, his main research interest has been primary care genetic research with an emphasis on the detection of genetic risk and carrier testing for common inherited disorders in general practice. He represents the RCGP on the Genetics Commissioning Advisory Group and is also a member of the UK National Screening Committee’s Down’s syndrome Implementation Advisory Group.
