Lajovic Shocks Tennis World, Bu’s Dream Debut In Shanghai

More than eight years ago, Dusan Lajovic and Stan Wawrinka had a tennis match in Shanghai. This time, Lajovic won for the first time against Wawrinka. He won 6-4, 7-6(7). Lajovic broke Wawrinka’s serve in the first game and saved a set point in the second set. The whole match took almost two hours.

Lajovic won his first match at all nine ATP Masters 1000 events. He’s ranked 54th in the world. He has now won eight of his last nine matches against top 50 players. He will play against the 23rd seed, Tallon Griekspoor, in the next round.

Brandon Nakashima also won his match in Shanghai. He beat Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-1, 7-6(3). Nakashima will play against the third seed, Holger Rune, next. Nakashima hit 21 winners, including nine aces.

In another match, a Chinese player named Buyunchaokete won his ATP Tour debut. He was leading against Miomir Kecmanovic when Kecmanovic retired. Now, Buyunchaokete will play against Sebastian Korda. If he wins, it will help him qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals.

There were more wins on the first day of the tournament. Yoshihito Nishioka beat Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) and will play against Casper Ruud. Yannick Hanfmann won against James Duckworth 6-4, 6-7(10), 6-3 and will play against Christopher Eubanks. Thanasi Kokkinakis beat Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-4 and will face Hubert Hurkacz, who is known for his powerful serves.
